Detroit Day 22: Slow Roll

Today, as most Mondays are, was a more relaxed day. I spent most of the day working, but managed to make two stops worth mentioning.

First Stop: Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe

I have seen this grocery store on Woodward a number of times and never stopped in. I must say I have been frequenting Whole Foods, but I figured I would try a new place. It is basically your typical grocery store but with a very large fresh meat selection. It is a good alternative to Whole Foods and if you need to pick up something quickly, there are not as many customers, making it a much more pleasant experience. The customer service is also pretty good. I will say that the prices at Ye Old Butcher Shop are slightly higher than Whole Foods, but I would still recommend a visit.

Second Stop: Slow Roll
Last week I opted out of joining Slow Roll because of the looming threat of grey clouds. This week I committed to going even if I was riding in a torrential downpour and in the beginning there was a bit of drizzle though we managed to avoid the rain that seemed to be chasing after us.
Detroit’s bike culture is quite active and I had no idea, largely because I never had a bike, but I am so glad I have joined the movement. Every Monday in the summer a group gets together to ride 12-15 miles around the city. They meet and leave from a different bar each week and this week we met at Anchor Bar on Fort Street. It is a great opportunity to see the city and to meet new people. There were about 300 of us and it was an incredible sight to see. I will definitely be joining again this coming Monday (July 22) and we will be meeting at The Old Shillelagh on Monroe at 7pm. I hope to see you there!
I tried to upload a video but blogger is not cooperating. Please check out my Instagram which has a short video from Slow Roll posted.

This picture does not do it justice but I tried

After Slow Roll we went to a friend’s event and the rain caught up with us, so I biked home in a jacket my friend gave me and was unfortunately NOT waterproof.
