Recovering from last night

So Fiji doesn’t really have a nightlife, or rather, a nightlife that I want anything to do with, and it has been raining for the last three days. Life sucks without sunshine. What this has led to is cabin fever. Keondra and I have all but lost our minds between wasting our lives away on the internet, talking about life, politics, and other stuff, and watching back to back episodes of “The L Word”. Yesterday we decided to go out to dinner. We headed to a chicken and pizza spot. The food was good enough and my chicken never had a chance at survival.

When I first got to Fiji, actually before I landed, Keondra impressed upon me the importance of finishing a bottle of Absolut Mango and Patron which were in her house. I have been trying to complete this task, with little help from her. So every time we go to a restaurant I pull out a small Fiji water bottle and pour a little of the contents inside of a Fanta orange ;-). Great cost saver! So while at dinner yesterday I added a little to much and was quite tipsy by the time we got back to the house.

Her friend and fellow Peace Corps member was back at the house so we all decided to play Phase 10 in conjunction with consuming the rest of the Absolut and Patron. Salt, Kool-Aid, and lemons that look like oranges were also present.

For those of you that have never turned Phase 10 into a drinking game, all it takes is a little alcohol, a lot of patience, and an appetite for disaster/a good time. The rules are whoever does not complete the phase takes a drink and if you really want folks to get drunk, whoever loses also drinks. Let’s just say most of these games never finish. Last night we all gave up after Phase 7. So after downing a liter of water, I hopped under the sheets.

I woke up at 6am feeling less than ok. I hopped up to grab yet another bottle of Fiji water. I drunk about 250ml and laid back down. Around 7:15am Keondra suggested we go on a walk. I hopped up, changed my clothes, downed another liter of water, grabbed the umbrella and we were off. It wasn’t raining but it sure looked like it could. We walked for about an hour. I think it was about a 2 mile walk. I picked up the pace halfway through and left Keondra in the dust. She wasn’t managing as well as I was. Needless to say, I felt good and realized that the perfect recovery to too much drinking is an early morning walk, great music, and loads of water!!! Try that next time you’re hanging over the side of the bed, claiming that you will never drink again!
