Black Sensation
For Saturday’s big night out, we headed to Matyas’ friend’s bar for a birthday party/liqueur promotion. The liqueur is called Agua and apparently its made form Coca Leaves, the same thing that cocaine is made from. The bartenders were awesome and were serving up loads of yummy drinks. I fell in love with three new drinks while I was there. The first was a cosmo, topped off with black vodka. Yes, BLACK vodka!
How cool is that. I’ve never seen that in the states or anywhere else in the world for that matter. Have you? It was the best cosmo I’ve ever had in my life. I’m not sure if it was the black vodka or the bartenders! I’m leaning towards the latter.
I had a mojito which was made with Agua, courtesy of Matyas’ friend Eric. I also enjoyed a Galliano and XuXu shot, which when swished around in the mouth tastes just like a strawberry milkshake. The last drink I had was a red back which was the black vodka with a mango/orange energy drink on the bottom.
I think. The drink of the night which I’m sure was consumed by the most people was the Black Sensation. This drink actually caused quite the discussion on race. Eric and I were sitting at the bar and Jeff, the 16 year old, underage bartender was making a drink.
Eric: “What’s that?”
Jeff: “It’s a black sensation.”
Jeff then looking at me, with fear in his eye: “Oh, I’m sorry. I’m sorry”
Me and Eric proceed to laugh. Some people just try to be way too PC. Why would I be angry because the drink is called a Black Sensation? If it were a White Sensation would he have apologized to all of the white people? Needless to say it sparked a conversation from which I deduced that the people I was talking to assumed that black people were temperamental. It just really sucks because the only experience that many people have with black Americans is what they see in movies and music videos, which we all know are not the most positive images.
