A Perfect Weekend in Martha’s Vineyard
A few months ago, my dear friend Crystal and I were on the phone and decided to plan a trip to Martha’s Vineyard with friends. We settled on a date in September, rounded up a group of ten amazing women, rented the perfect house and set off for a delightfully relaxing weekend with friends. This was my first time in the Vineyard and I thought it was absolutely spectacular, cute and quaint. The home we rented from a woman named Grace made the trip.
Most of us came from NYC and spent nearly eight hours traveling on a variety of mediums. The trip started with the subway for one group and cabs for another which put us all at Penn Station for a 2:40am train. Yes, 2:40am. Then we hopped on a really cold Amtrak which took us to Rhode Island. From there we waited at the station for our pre-arranged shuttle which transported us to the ferry. Once at the ferry we waited a bit more before heading to the Vineyard. Because it was so early in the morning, the weather was bad and there was a general lack of sleep among the group, we sat inside and all fell asleep until we arrived. Martha’s Vineyard was impressive at first glance, but the bad weather did put a damper on the mood. At the port we met a driver named Zeke, who remained with us for the entire trip. He is a student from Bulgaria who comes to the Vineyard every summer to make some money.
Overall the weekend was very relaxing yet all too brief. We spent our time chatting about life, lounging at the pool, soaking up rays at the beach, eating delicious seafood, laughing and just relaxing.
I would love to return to the Vineyard one day, but let me give you my keys to enjoying the vineyard:
1. Find the perfect group of friends
2. Rent the perfect house, with a pool
3. Stay a minimum of five days and four nights or a week if you can
4. Fly or take the ferry from the East River if coming from NYC
5. Unplug. No iPads, iPhones, laptops, 20 Instagram posts per day, texting marathons, etc.
This was a beautiful weekend with great people! Thanks for the pics Jessica!
I hope we can do it again!
