Detroit Day 3: The Struggle
Rise and Shine: 9:53am (went to sleep around 7:15am)
Today’s Forecast: 85 degrees
Fitness: Unfortunately do my lack of sleep there was also a lack of energy so I did not fitness activities yesterday.
My sleep deprivation also led to a very lazy day. Though I did not sleep that much I just ran a couple errands and made the effort to try out one new bar. I will do better!
First Stop: Lefty’s Lounge
Conscious of my commitment to this 30 day project, with no energy to do much I looked at my D: Hive list of bars and restaurants in midtown then used my Happy Hour app to narrow down my options. I chose Lefty’s from the section called “comfy bars” as opposed to “dive bars” because I am not really a dive bar kind of gal. I arrived to Lefty’s around 5:30pm so there were not many patrons. I would describe Lefty’s as an Ok bar. I do not see myself returning, however the happy hour app ranked it as the number #3 in Detroit and #1 in Wayne State, so someone likes it!
The happy hour special was one that students would love as the well drinks are only $2.50 and long islands were $3.50. So if you are looking for a cheap drink, this may be your place, but if you are looking for a bar with a nice atmosphere for an after work outing or something of the sort this would not be my pick for you.

Second Stop: Super Greenland Supermarket
If you follow my Instagram then you know that when I am in Detroit on a Wednesday, I head to Super Greenland Supermarket in Dearborn for their weekly Wild Wednesdays produce sales. The prices are absolutely ridiculous. I got all of the food in the picture below for $16.55. Today we went to a smaller Greenland which is on the north side of Warren west of Super Greenland. No matter which store you go to you are guaranteed to find deals on Wednesday. Just be sure to check the freshness of the produce because once or twice I picked up some not so nice fruit, but it is a necessary trip to make if you juice or do smoothies as much as I do.

Third Stop: Detroit Loves U Guest House
Word to the wise, if you visit Detroit you must have a car or another clever alternative to the transportation system here. I must admit in my entire life, I have only taken the bus once and I do not know anyone who solely relies on it. Coming in and out of Detroit is sometimes frustrating since I do not have a car and I am constantly having to ask my mother to borrow her car or bother friends to pick me up when going out. Because I knew that I wanted to enjoy Detroit with freedom of transportation hurdles, I bought a bike and rented a room closer to the center of the action.
I thought I would find a sublet on craigslist given the large student population in midtown, but in the end airbnb.com was my saving grace. After a few months of negotiations around dates and prices I finally settled on staying at the Detroit Loves U Guesthouse. The pictures from the website were pretty accurate, save for a couple of minor repairs that would make it a little better. The only turnoff is the neighborhood. The house is located in Virginia Park which is adjacent to and north of New Center. When I first arrived to check out the house a few months ago I was very skeptical of the neighborhood, based on looks alone. Nathan, who has been living here for two years assured me that is safe so I stepped out on faith.

Today was such a lazy day, sorry I did not get around to seeing more things, but tomorrow will be better! I spent $30.30 (gas, whiskey sour, fruits and vegetables for smoothies)
