Eating Rome: Caffè Propaganda
In Rome, the eternal city, a city which seems to be constantly defending itself from globalization and modernity, it is sometimes hard to find cutting edge bars or even a bar which has an extensive cocktail list and at the very least bartenders with a creative flair. Nights out are often spent in piazzas drinking Peroni or in uniquely Roman bars with no frills.
A few months back friends and I ventured into Caffè Propaganda for the first time. We were immediately impressed by the decor and the seemingly, cool, for a lack of better words, patrons that we found inside. We enjoyed a bottle of biological (organic) red and spent most of our time gawking at the men. Needless to say, we enjoyed ourselves. Since then I have returned to Propaganda a number of times for drinks, dinner and an evening tea. While the food leaves a bit to be desired, it is good enough, though a bit overpriced. The desserts are amazing, the wine is good and the atmosphere is great. The overpriced cocktails are delicious (€9.50) and the staff are all very very nice and some even speak English!! In Propoganda, you feel as though you are not in Rome, and sometimes, that’s a good thing. You feel as though you could be in London, Paris or even, dare I say it, New York.
So if you are looking for a place in Rome that has that global feel, head to Caffè Propaganda. It is strategically located a few meters from the Colosseum, making it is easily accessible by Rome’s public transportation. I highly suggest reservations if you are planning to go for dinner. This place gets packed!
