On American Travel to Africa

“There is also limited interest in Africa among US citizens and the business community. Of the 30.3 million American tourists who traveled abroad in 2009, only 4% went to Africa.”

According to the US Department of Commerce, as quoted in a Guardian article, American citizens have not listed Africa high on their travel priority list. I would suspect is has something to do with the constant narrative in the American media of Africa being riddled with disease, corruption and war, not to mention that we talk about Africa as a whole without giving attention the the vast differences between the 56 countries.
