The Mojave Desert
In January, while gallivanting on the west coast, I had the chance to assist on one of Elton Anderson’s sets. Funnily enough he was shooting an old friend, DJ B Hen, Hollywood’s Champion of Sound. After tossing back some green smoothies, James Bland (videographer and actor), Elton and I hopped into the car and headed to Brian’s house to select some clothes for the shoot. After a bit of horsing around and lots of “put that on” “take that off” “try that on” we were on our way to the Mojave Desert. We were fortunate to also have Ashley Sky Walker join in on the fun.
The two hour drive was filled with laughs and insightful conversations. Once we arrived at the desert we were all taken away by the beauty of the scenery and jumped right in. The subject changed clothes and Elton did a few test shots using me as the subject. James captured everything on video and I have included it at the bottom of this post.
We had an amazing time dancing to good music, adjusting pocket squares, hanging out of the roof of a moving jeep and genuinely enjoying each other’s company and the surroundings. Some highlights from the shoot included Brian attempting to drive the Jeep backward while peaking through the roof. Elton and Brian running at full speed about half of a mile in order to capture a shot with a train going past in the background at dusk. On the drive home, on the freeway, when the roof flew open. It felt like a scary movie and those of us in the back seat had to huddle together to keep warm until we were able to get off of the freeway and reattach the roof. FUN TIMES.
