C’est violet!!!!
So I have decided to grow my hair back since it is so cheap to get my hair braided while in Benin. This is the second time that I got my hair braided and was still excited by the $13 price tag, a thankful departure from the $180 that I spend in the US.
When the two coiffures arrived and took the hair out of the package I exclaimed, out of shock, “C’est violet!!” One of the packages of hair was black but the other was purple!!! Can you imagine? Purple!!!!!!!! The lady told me that the hair would be mixed together. The Italian claimed after the first few braids that you couldn’t even tell it was purple. After five hours of studying French, reading The Wisdom of Whores and playing sudoku and spiderette on my iPhone we finally finished.
When one of the nuns came to see our progress she asked why my hair was purple, then the coiffure explained that when I came to her shop I selected the color. Hmmmm. I thought to myself, then realized this language barrier is proving to be the cause of lots of confusion.
When I went to the shop I thought I was showing her the size and the style, I wanted twists instead of braids, apparently she thought that I meant the color also. Hmph. So here I am with lots of purple hair on my head.
And to make it better when we were walking from lunch today the Italian pointed out, “Wow, your hair actually is purple, you can see the purple.”
Life happens.
I'm digging the fact that you have shades of purple/violet in your hair cuz u know I love experimental/outrageous colours!
