Her majesty, the Grand Canyon
Six hours after we left the Hoover Dam we arrived at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. While the scenery was amazing it was definitely an “Are we there yet ride?” I was so anxious to see this thing that I had heard so much about. While I feel like I captured some amazing shots, understand this: no picture, video, or retelling of eye witness stories can ever compare to you heading to Arizona and seeing the Grand Canyon for yourself.
Because we only had limited time there, we weren’t able to do any of the hikes but we were able to witness sunset and sunrise, after an uncomfortable six hour nap in the car. If I could (when I go back) do things differently I would definitely spend several days at the Canyon and do a variety of the tours that they have to offer. If possible I would also book a cabin at the incredible Grand Canyon Lodge, on the north rim. From my understanding, you have to book the rooms at least a year in advance so get on it.
A slight warning: if you have a fear of heights, open spaces, or even death for that matter, this might not be the vacation spot for you. The Grand Canyon is absolutely massive and while I have none of the fears listed above I did find myself becoming a bit overwhelmed and nervous standing on those cliffs. Oh, one more thing, the north rim sits at roughly 8,800 feet above sea level, if you don’t know what that means, it means that the air is thin. I felt like I was back on top of Mt. Fuji with all the wheezing I was doing. Matyi was fine, but if you have any trace of asthma, be sure to pack your inhaler.
